Natural resources &; you - how water works affects us all

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Hi again. Kurt Busch here. As you may know by now, I used to work in the water works industry in Las Vegas. Water is a big issue everywhere, but especially in a place like Las Vegas. It is no secret how dry it is in the southern Nevada sun.

For this reason, I have gotten involved with Water Works Industry Solutions. The truth is that the quality and accessibility of our water source has a lot to do with the availability of training.

I’ve heard that millions of dollars are wasted each day on costs associated with the repair of water lines that were not installed correctly. In a place like Las Vegas where water is not easy to come by, it becomes an even bigger deal. I was reading an article in the Wall Street Journal about cities only having a week or so of water reserve. So if something were to happen, the water source would last a matter of days!

If more training is available, it could save time, money and resources for a lot of people.

Take the time to check out this site – and check back soon for my next update.

How little training WW employees really have compared to other professions and the safety hazards of inadequate training

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Hi everyone- Kurt Busch here. I’ve really enjoyed taking about this issue on the Water Works Industry Solutions web site. I know I have mentioned before that I used to work with the Las Vegas Valley Water District and know how important this issue is to our communities.

During my time working in the waterworks industry back in Las Vegas, I discovered that there are a surprising number of professions requiring more training than most waterworks employees are required to have, especially at the basic or entry level positions. Which, in most cases, are some of the most important positions, providing safe and clean drinking water to each and every one of us. In fact, some states do not currently require operators to be licensed at all.

Check out this web site that tells you every occupation in every state that does require a license. This link will allow you to choose a state and then it will list all of the professions. It is a great resource and I think you will be surprised when you take a look.

That’s all for now. Check back soon. Next time, I will be talking about how training in the water works industry affects our natural resources.

Contact Hours – Next Generation Training

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

Hi again – Kurt Busch here. Thanks to all of you for the feedback on my first blog entry on this web site earlier this month. We’ve been so busy over the holidays with our team busy gearing up for Daytona.

As I mentioned last time, I used to work for the water works industry in Las Vegas, so visiting this site and talking about this industry is like I’ve returned to my old stomping grounds!

Last time we talked I touched on how Water Works Industry Solutions’ series of DVD lessons called Training and Installation “The Basics” can help get you those CEU/contact hours. Even though every state is different in regards to the number of CEU’s and contact hours needed – you can be awarded free contact hours for DVD training! There are 33 DVD lessons in all, so you do the math! Check out this web site for more details or even call to get the latest information.

That’s all for now – next time I want to talk about how “The Basics” DVD lessons can help your team… so check back and I’ll be able to update you on my team also!

Thanks for checking in!
