Hello. This is Kurt Busch. I have been blogging on this site for a while about the importance of quality training being available for the people in the water works industry. The reason is that I used to be involved in the industry while living in Las Vegas. I would like to talk about another issue facing the industry today.
I have noticed over the years that there are fewer and fewer kids going into the trades. Since I got my start in the trades, it is an issue I care about. There is a lot of value in working in a rewarding field that fits you.
Water Works Industry Solutions has partnered with ACE, a high school in northern Nevada focused on the trade industries to provide them with tools they need to make sure the next generation is well-trained and prepared. I have been really impressed with the program and would encourage anyone to look into helping.
Check out their web site at http://www.acehighschool.org/ to learn more about the school and what they are providing to the community.
That’s all for now. Check back soon for more blogs.

Hi everyone – Kurt Busch here. I’ve really enjoyed blogging on this web site – while it’s a change from my racing day, it’s also a reminder of where I’ve been. For those of you who don’t already know, I used to work with the Las Vegas Valley Water District. It’s been fun sharing experiences about my days in the water works industry.
Its also been a great experience to team up with Water Works Industry Solutions – these folks have developed a series of DVD lessons that cover basic waterworks principals, commonly used parts and their general installations. I cannot tell you how great it would have been to have such a resource when I was working in the industry. It’s kind of scary to think about the problems that could be averted by having adequate training.
Thanks

Hi again. Kurt Busch here. As you may know by now, I used to work in the water works industry in Las Vegas. Water is a big issue everywhere, but especially in a place like Las Vegas. It is no secret how dry it is in the southern Nevada sun.
For this reason, I have gotten involved with Water Works Industry Solutions. The truth is that the quality and accessibility of our water source has a lot to do with the availability of training.
I’ve heard that millions of dollars are wasted each day on costs associated with the repair of water lines that were not installed correctly. In a place like Las Vegas where water is not easy to come by, it becomes an even bigger deal. I was reading an article in the Wall Street Journal about cities only having a week or so of water reserve. So if something were to happen, the water source would last a matter of days!
If more training is available, it could save time, money and resources for a lot of people.
Take the time to check out this site – and check back soon for my next update.

Hi everyone- Kurt Busch here. I’ve really enjoyed taking about this issue on the Water Works Industry Solutions web site. I know I have mentioned before that I used to work with the Las Vegas Valley Water District and know how important this issue is to our communities.
During my time working in the waterworks industry back in Las Vegas, I discovered that there are a surprising number of professions requiring more training than most waterworks employees are required to have, especially at the basic or entry level positions. Which, in most cases, are some of the most important positions, providing safe and clean drinking water to each and every one of us. In fact, some states do not currently require operators to be licensed at all.
Check out this web site that tells you every occupation in every state that does require a license. This link will allow you to choose a state and then it will list all of the professions. It is a great resource and I think you will be surprised when you take a look.

That’s all for now. Check back soon. Next time, I will be talking about how training in the water works industry affects our natural resources.

It’s kind of scary to think about the problems that could be averted by having adequate training.
I’ve heard there are about 700 water main breaks each day in North America and millions of dollars wasted each day on costs associated to repairs. Quality training can help alleviate some of those problems. “The Basics” are the ideal educational platform for the waterworks industry.
Take the time to check out this site – and check back soon for my next update! Thanks.

Hi everyone. I’m Kurt Busch, 2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup champion. You’re probably wondering what I’m doing writing a blog on the web site of Water Works Industry Solutions, a company that has developed a series of educational and training solutions for the water works industry.
Before I became a NASCAR champion, I worked for the water district in Las Vegas, Nevada. I know the importance of learning and understanding “the tools of the trade” and having a unified training program. That’s why I’m supporting Water Works Industry Solutions and its efforts to do just that. If I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s the importance of a “unified team approach.”
Training and Installation “The Basics” is a series of lessons researched and designed to cover basic waterworks principals, commonly used parts and their installations. At the beginning of each DVD, I talk about my past experience in working with the Las Vegas Valley Water District.
I remember having to achieve those CEU/contact hours – these lessons can help you get those credits! I’ll talk about the contact hours more, next time we chat.
Thanks for visiting – gotta head to the track as we gear up for Daytona!
Check back with the site for my next blog entry!
